Shrek Movie Info
The Shrek series of animated films have captured the hearts and minds of children and adults around the world and the film series has been hugely successful for its producers, Dreamworks.
Shrek The Musical West End Dates Announced
Shrek The Musical is coming to the West End in London very soon and tickets have just been released for the opening performances.
Opening night is scheduled for the 6th May 2011 and the production is already guaranteed to be a hit with the legion of Shrek fans here in the UK.
Following on from the immense popularity of the DreamWorks films, the stage show has been touring in America for some considerable while now. Because of this, is was a logical step to bring the entire production to the London theatre-going public and the planning and negotiating has now culminated in one of the most magical and spectacular love stories being brought to life on the London stage.
The venue is set to be the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane – a theatre steeped in musical history – and the stage is set (literally!) for Shrek, Princess Fiona, Donkey, Lord Farquaad, the Gingerbread Man, Dragon and so many more familiar characters to entertain you as Shrek meets up with the very loyal but incredibly annoying Donkey and they find themselves thrown together in a quest to rescue the beautiful Princess Fiona.
As happens in all the best love stories, nothing runs to plan and the Princess is harbouring a dark secret. Of course, there’s a love-sick dragon to battle before Princess Fiona can be rescued from her prison at the top of a very tall tower a Shrek and Donkey face all kinds of perils in order to get to her.
With twists and turns, the tale unfolds. Laughs are aplenty as we get to know the quirks and foibles of all the characters and all the elements of pantomime and fairy tale are skilfully woven throughout the plot.
Lord Farquaad is the vertically-challenged, archetypal baddie, played by Nigel Harman and his evil and selfish nature is set squarely against Shrek’s gruff but kindly character as we watch Nigel Lindsay skilfully bring the loveable ogre to life.
Donkey is played by Richard Blackwood, who will have his work cut out to ‘out-Eddie’ Eddie Murphy, who voiced Donkey in all three Shrek movies. Can he be as endearingly annoying as his film character? We’ll have to wait until May 2011 to find out…….
But maybe Princess Fiona is the most eagerly awaiting piece of casting genius so far.
Amanda Holden is famous both sides of The Pond, not only as an accomplished actress but also – and probably more famously – because of her friendship and association with Simon Cowell and his spectacularly successful Britain’s Got Talent shows.
Every little girl in the land will want to be able to dress up as Princess Fiona in their very own Princess Fiona Costume when they see how Amanda transforms from beautiful princess to sensational ogress and back again.
But let’s not forget the men – and boys – in all this. Shrek Fancy Dress Costumes are already a popular choice at Halloween, Christmas and any other time of year when the costume party invitations come around. But once the live stage show gathers pace, you can be certain that you’ll be seeing any number of Shrek look-alikes dressed in full, green Shrek Fancy Dress Costumes up and down the length of the land!
Princess Fiona’s Beauty Secrets
If you were Princess Fiona, what would your best kept beauty secrets be?
Would it be the facial mud pack, using mud from your very own swamp? Or perhaps it would be the hair remover made from melted ear wax that would keep you looking so green and glowing?
It’s not easy looking your best when you are a green ogre and facial warts come with the territory. Mere humans complain bitterly about spots and acne but when your skin has the texture of a frog’s back, keeping these things under control poses a real problem. In fact, the only thing that really does help in the zit department is actually, Essence of Frog Skin Preparation.
See? I said that it isn’t easy……..
